Layouts
Theater Style
Up to 160 seats in rows facing the stage, ideal for talks, screenings, and panel discussions.
Polygon Atlanta was conceived as a centrally located gathering point for technologists, designers, and developers in Midtown, a place where the city's creative and tech communities could come together on a regular basis. The idea was to offer a venue that felt less like a traditional conference room and more like a shared living room for ideas, accessible to anyone working on or curious about the web and the wider digital scene. By keeping the atmosphere open and welcoming, the space aimed to reflect the collaborative energy already happening across Atlanta's neighborhoods, from the West Side to Old Fourth Ward, and to give that energy a physical home where conversations could continue in person rather than only online.
The room itself was designed with flexibility in mind, recognizing that no two meetups, talks, or workshops ever look quite the same. A theater-style arrangement could be set up for screenings and panel discussions, with rows of seating facing a stage and a screen for presentations. For more hands-on sessions, the same area could be reconfigured into classroom or workgroup clusters, giving facilitators room to move between tables and attendees space to spread out laptops, notes, and prototypes without feeling crowded. When the occasion called for something less formal, the furniture could be cleared away to create a wide open floor suited to socials, mixers, and receptions where the focus was on conversation rather than a fixed agenda.
Audio and visual equipment was treated as part of the baseline experience rather than an optional add-on, which mattered for community-run events working with limited budgets. Microphones, projectors, screens, and sound gear were available on site, so organizers did not have to coordinate separate rentals or worry about technical hiccups on the day of their gathering. This all-inclusive approach made it easier for first-time event hosts to put on a polished program, and it allowed more established groups to redirect their resources toward speakers, food, or outreach instead of logistics. For a city whose creative and technical communities often operate on volunteer effort, removing those small barriers helped ideas reach an audience more reliably.
Beyond the equipment and the layout, the building itself carried a sense of place that shaped how events felt once they began. Exposed brick, tall windows, and the character of an older Midtown structure gave the room a grounded, industrial warmth that contrasted with the sleek neutrality of many newer venues. That atmosphere seemed to encourage a more relaxed pace, with attendees lingering between sessions, sketching on napkins, or striking up conversations with strangers about projects they were wrestling with. Over time, the space became less a blank rental hall and more a recognizable meeting spot, a familiar backdrop against which Atlanta's web, tech, and creative communities could see their own growth reflected back at them.
